The Artist

Born in Holland, raised in Harrison NY, I have lived in Ridgefield, CT for 34 years with
my wife where we raised two wonderful children. I maintain my studio here.

After college my early years as a “starving artist” were interrupted by the U.S. Army,
Flower Power and Woodstock. My painting career was further put on hold by corporate
America, working as a designer and art director. In 1989 I established my own graphic
design agency that has had a very successful run.

After talking about getting back into painting for many years, my life changing epiphany
finally came... and for the last several years I have been able to concentrate, full time,
on “real art.” I truly love the whole art experience and hope that my emotion is reflected in
my work. My paintings are in collections and galleries throughout the United States and abroad.

The Art

My approach to painting continues to evolve along two
different tracks, abstract and modern representational;
but my goal is to merge the best qualities of both styles.
Utilizing vibrant color and muted tonal imagery, these
contemporary landscapes are more about capturing the
sense of a place in color and light, rather than just
representing a specific location.

I use powerful brushwork and bold color relationships to
create complex organic textures. I work with encaustic,
oil, and acrylics, often mixing them all together, to achieve
a unique vibrant surface with strong graphic qualities that
engages the viewer in an almost physical way. People
really want to reach out and touch these paintings.

As an artist, knowing that people respond or connect
emotionally with my paintings is very rewarding.
Capturing a beautiful visual moment and sharing it by
putting it on canvas... perfect
